01 · The villages
Two villages at the gates of the park
My name is Mariano Gómez. My father's family is from Horcajo and my mother's from Anchuras: two villages of the Montes de Toledo, at the gates of Cabañeros. I grew up looking at these hills without knowing how much there was inside.
02 · The boy
The boy who was always playing football
As a child, I was the one who never left the village square without a ball. I still am, now with the new millennium generations.
03 · The DJ
Drilling the region's eardrums
Some of you may know me for drilling your ears (or delighting them, depending on your age, I suppose) with «boom-boom» music at a local fiesta. A record spinner then, a DJ now.
04 · Studies
More vertigo than James Stewart
I started studying architecture, but halfway through I had more vertigo than James Stewart playing the lead in D'entre les morts.
05 · The change
Telling stories
I switched to Digital Communication and to Advertising and Public Relations. I was better at telling about things than building them.
06 · The pandemic
The Cabañeros books
During the pandemic I realised there was no website that showed accurately everything the books about Cabañeros I had at home said. So I started putting it in order myself: four months, twelve hours a day at the computer.
07 · Today
A photographer in Madrid
Today I am a photographer in Madrid. But this website is still the place I come back to, and I keep looking after it from here.
08 · The aim
For people to enjoy the park
Cabañeros.org is a website about Cabañeros National Park. It wants visitors to enjoy information about the park in an interactive and interesting way: birds with their song and animated flight, plants, maps, trails.
09 · Horcajo de los Montes
And, while we're at it, my village
It also wants to give visibility to the businesses in my village, Horcajo de los Montes: the places to sleep, eat and shop when you come to see the park.
