Three Iberian lynx cubs caught on camera in CabaƱeros

Sometimes the best way to find out what’s going on in the hills is to let a camera do the waiting for us.

Three Iberian lynx cubs have been recorded by cameras in CabaƱeros, according to the report by Castilla-La Mancha Media. The broadcaster says that, up to that point, they had been seen through camera trapping.

It’s the kind of news you want to watch slowly. It’s also a reminder that our visits to the park and the lives of its animals don’t always keep the same hours. Luckily, the cameras are in far less of a hurry than we are.

How it relates to the April news

The lynx’s recovery had already led to the announcement of the first litter recorded since the park was declared. That statement from the Ministry spoke of two kittens; CMM now reports three cubs.

The sources we checked don’t allow us to say whether they are the same animals, or to explain the different count. So we keep both reports with their dates, without adding details that nobody knows yet. Good news does not need invented family links.

Watch without chasing

These images don’t turn the lynx into a guaranteed stop on a day out. If you walk in CabaƱeros, stay on the paths and follow the park’s guidance; if you’re lucky enough to come across wildlife, give it space. The photo can wait. The animal has no reason to.

You can meet its neighbours in our guide to the mammals of CabaƱeros. These hills are no less interesting when the star of the show decides to stay out of the picture.
